Time to lace up for the Birchwood Half Marathon

The Birchwood Half Marathon, which returns for its fifth year, will be held at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre, on Sunday, April 12, 2015.

Runners have a choice of participating in three distances in the open race, namely the 5km, the 10km and the ultimate 21.1km.

This CGA approved race is set to be the biggest yet with over 3 000 athletes expected to register, certain roads will be affected by the race so the organisers have arranged for over 30 Metro police officers to assist on the day ensuring the utmost safely for the runners.

The 10km and 21.1km races are scheduled for a 6.30am start, with the 5km set to start at 6.45am.

The first 1500 participants to pre-enter will receive a long sleeve branded T-shirt. Medals will be awarded to the first 2000 participants in the 10km and 21.1km races, while 500 medals will be awarded to the first 5km participants.

Entries can be purchased from www.entrytime.co.za, Birchwood Hotel reception or the Sweat Shops in Befordview and Dunkeld.

Entries will be taken on the day however pre-entries close on Sunday, March 29.

The latest event comes with a new twist with the first male and female athletes to cross the 21.1km finishing line quicker than last year’s winning times of 01.06.51 for males and 01.16.32 for females, set to win double their prize money.

Prize-giving will start at 8.30am.
