Local footballer to try his skills in Europe

Reiger Park’s rising soccer player Shandre Campbell has earned selection to play in the International Robin van Persie (RvP) Tournament, in the Netherlands.

Campbell will represent South Africa’s Rand United – a team assembled from the finest players in the province.

He’ll be joined by former team mate at Mpumalanga Black Aces and fellow Reiger Park resident Duan Bennett, who also earned selection to the Rand United squad.

Campbell, a Grade Four Wit Deep Primary student who plays as a striker, will line-up against youth academy teams from England, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.

He began his career at Boksburg Football Club at the age of five. His dream is to don the colours of Bafana Bafana and his role model is Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

His achievements include playing for Aces from u-8 level until recently; training at the Manchester City School of Football in 2013; being voted the Most Valued Player in a tournament in Modderfontein last year and finishing as the top goal-scorer while representing Sun United in a Youth Day tournament, in Reiger Park – also last year.

He also recently took part in trials hosted by the SuperSport United Academy, where he was chosen and which he currently represents – ending his stint with Black Aces.

The RvP Tournament takes place over two days, from May 30 to 31, with the first day being the major event.

Anyone interested in sponsoring Shandre for his tour costs may contact Clarissa or Reshan Campbell on 082 719 1498 and 076 429 8997. – @SabeloBoksburg
