CBC makes light work of Duduza

The CBC Old Boys Premier XI eased past Duduza, at CBC, in their Premier League encounter with a nine-wicket victory, on Sunday, February 8.

Having won the pre-match coin toss, skipper Willie Bernhardt sent the visitors to bat first before watching the side’s opening bowler George Viviers rip into Duduza’s batting order.

Viviers virtually single-handedly stifled the visitors’ batting line-up, taking a whopping seven wickets in 8.4 overs – including one maiden – and conceding only 43 runs.

Duduza lost wickets in quick succession, with neither of their top-order batsmen failing to reach the 20-run mark. Ncamile Livi offered the sole instance of resistance, with his impressive half-century innings, before eventually being dismissed for 56.

Duduza’s Mpho Nzimande also stood out with the bat, scoring 29 runs.

The visitors were eventually bowled out for 156, after 47.4 overs.

CBC was ruthless in response, needing just three batsmen to bag the win.

Dylan Bennie and Mark Pearce wasted no time in beginning the chase, with both hitting half-centuries to bring the win well within sight. The latter was dismissed for 50, giving way to Wickus Germishuizen.

Bennie finished with an undefeated 56, with Germishuizen finishing with an unbeaten 36, as CBC reached the 157-target in 34.4 overs. – @SabeloBoksburg
