Full steam ahead to fix potholes

The Advertiser recently published an article about all the potholes affecting motorists in Boksburg.

Good news is that Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele made an announcement at the January council meeting that Bidvest Velocity, through its corporate social investment, has come on board to assist the metro in dealing with the problem of potholes — at no cost.

According to Gungubele, the company started doing the work late last year, and will resume at full steam during February.

“Our roads and storm water department is also working on a plan that will ensure that the gap presently plugged by Bidvest in dealing with potholes is permanently closed going forward, to avoid the present status quo,” he said, adding that, as a resident of Ekurhuleni, he shares residents’ frustration when it comes to potholes.

“What is more worrying is that the problem is, indeed, escalating as the rain continues pelting down,” said the mayor.

Gungubele stated that it must be clarified that the company’s involvement is an augmentation of the city’s own maintenance efforts, as budgeted for in the 2014/2015 financial year.
