2014, a year in review: Wild Flames Gymnastics Club

Last year (2014) proved to be a good one for Boksburg’s Wild Flames Concordia Tumbling and Acrobatic Gymnastics Club (CTAGC).

Some of the highlights are:

* Eleven gymnasts have been selected to represent South Africa at the 15th World Gymnaestrada, in Helsinki, Finland, this year.

They are Phillip Kleynhans, Johnathan Evans, Dylan Ferreira, Joshua Stoneman, Divan Willemse, David Horswill, Phillip Kleynhans, Zandri Botha, Lara Scoones, Kay-lee van Eeden and Caitlin Weber.

* Club members Caitlin Weber, Kay-Lee van Eeden, Lara Scoones, Divan Willemse, David Horswill, Tanika de Gouveia and Juanita Smith took part in the 2014 Indo Pacific International Championships held at the Superbowl, Sun City.

Five of them received gold medals and two received silver.

* Three gymnasts (Kiara Swart, Bianca Engelbrecht and Nikita Viljoen) competed in the World Age Group Competition, at the 2014 World Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships, during July, in Levallois, just outside Paris, France.

* Fifty-five acrobatic gymnasts obtained their East Gauteng provincial colours for acrobatic gymnastics and competed at the South African Gymnastics Games.

The club won a total of 57 medals at the games, including 38 gold medals, 15 silver and four bronze.

* Fifteen gymnasts obtained their East Gauteng provincial colours for tumbling and competed at the South African Gymnastics Games, where the club won seven gold and five silver medals.

* Twenty eight gymnasts competed at the Mini South African tumbling event and the club won eight gold, six silver and two bronze medals. – @SabeloBoksburg
