Local rugby club back in training

Boksburg Rugby Club (The Owls) are back in training ahead of their 2015 season.

The club, who boast five teams, including u-19, u-21, a third and second team, as well as the first squad, assembled at their Prince George Park home ground on Tuesday, January 13.

According to club chairman Sean Scheepers, players are already being put through their paces in preparations for the new campaign, which kicks-off with the Delmas Rugby Festival, followed by the Valke League.

“The guys are definitely looking forward to the season,” he said.

“We were a bit disappointed with out first team finishing third in the league last season, so we’re hoping to go all the way this year.”

Scheepers added that the club are looking to hold onto the Valke Club of the Year trophy, which they have won for the last two years and currently share with local rivals Brakpan Rugby Club.

“We will not be taking part in the Assupol Cup this season, as it’s not a compulsory tournament,” he said.

The Owls train from 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at PG Park.

Their first match is on February 28, at the Delmas festival.
