Four animals injured by fireworks this festive season

More animals were neglected and abandoned during the festive season than in 2013.

“The influx of animals into our society was enormous,” says the Boksburg SPCA manager, Wilma Steynbergh.

A total of 308 animals were admitted as strays over the holiday season.

“We were fortunate that most of these animals were claimed by their owners,” says Steynbergh.

The SPCA encourages the public to visit the society and look for their lost pets without delay.

Fireworks also caused problems and there were four cases reported to the SPCA where animals had been injured.

According to Steynbergh, in one incident the SPCA had to take action where fireworks were illegally used.

“The inspector was kindly assisted by the EMPD.”

“Our sincere thanks also goes out to the Advertiser. The awareness created by the newspaper was influential with regards to fundraising as it prompted support from the community.”

The SPCA appreciates the contributions from the Boksburg community.
