Oos Rand Secondary achieves 90 per cent pass rate

Reiger Park based Oos Rand Secondary School managed a 90.1 per cent pass rate in the 2014 matric examinations, a drop from last year's 94.6 per cent.

The school obtained a total of five distinctions, achieved by learners Alanzo Barnes with three distinctions in life orientation, mathematics and physical science, and Isaac Mthimunye with two distinctions in geography and life sciences.

The total of number of learners who qualified to study towards a university degree stands at 38 per cent while 52.1 per cent qualified to study towards a diploma.

School principal Lincoln van Ross thanked the District Education Department for their support with the morning and afternoon matic classes which helped the pupils a lot.

He did however attribute the school’s pass rate drop to a change in curriculum, which he said affected both the learners and educators.
