62 collisions locally over the holidays
The EMPD recorded a total of 62 collisions for both Boksburg and Vosloorus over the festive season.
There were 51 collisions in Boksburg and 11 Vosloorus.
“Two people were killed in Boksburg collisions – one a passenger at the intersection of Trichardts and Dudley Smith roads on December 16, in which three vehicles were involved.
“The other fatality took place on N17 Highway eastbound, between Trichardts and Heidleburg roads, in which a driver was killed after losing control of his vehicle,” said EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.
Kgasago also said that eight drivers were arrested for drunken driving in Boksburg while one was nabbed in Vosloorus.
The EMPD also removed seven unroadworthy vehicles in Boksburg and four in Vosloorus.
“A total of 279 fines were issued in Boksburg and 102 in Vosloorus,” said Kgasago.
He added that during the festive season operations, two drug dealers were nabbed in Boksburg on December 30 and December 31, at Parklands Estates – one with 3600 mandrax tablets valued at R180 000 and the other with cat valued at R2 000.
