Firefighters get to grips with night time drills

Student firefighters completed their tough training course on a high note, on Friday night, November 28.

The night training drills were held at the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services (EMS) training academy at Leon Ferreira Fire Station, Boksburg.

In order to better protect the residents of Ekurhuleni, dozens of trainee firefighters gathered at the station in order to learn how to work during the nighttime.

Under the watchful eyes of their instructor and a rescue team, they battled highly-flammable Jet fuel fires from several fuel storage tanks, and successfully extinguished all of them.

Different scenarios were played out so that they can be equipped to handle any situation, even when the temperatures are reaching maximum degrees Celsius.

“The objective was to put in practice what they (the trainees) have learnt during their highly-demanding three-month firefighting course.

“Dedicated young firefighters showed their character, dedication, and willingness to go out there to deliver high quality services to their different communities,” says EMS spokesperson William Ntladi,

According to Ntladi, once the sun goes down, fighting a fire is completely different.

“Fighting fire at night is more intense, that’s why working together is key to keeping everyone safe during a fire,” he adds. – @FanieBoksburg
