3 000 vacancies in metro – DA

The DA has asked if the ruling party in the Ekurhuleni metro is serious about job creation after it was revealed that there are almost 3 000 vacant posts in the metro.

“This has a variety of serious repercussions in the running of the metro,” says DA Clr Bruce Reid.

He says that R73-million of the repairs and maintenance budget in the Energy Department has not been spent, despite daily power outages experienced by many areas.

“The DA suspects that the unfilled job posts meant that essential tasks were ignored for weeks on end, or not done at all, while one person struggled to do the job of two or even three people.

“If the ruling party were serious about service delivery it would ensure that these posts were filled timeously so that there was limited disruption to the supply of services.

“Of course, the added bonus would mean that at least another 3 000 of Ekurhuleni’s residents would be employed. – @IschkeBoksburg
