‘BB Gun’ faces Kabesa in lightweight return

Barend ‘BB Gun’ Nienaber from Boksburg will make his return to the lightweight division when he faces Igeu Kabesa (3-0) in a main card fight at EFC 36 at the Coca-Cola Dome on Thursday, December 11.

The 25-year-old will also be stepping foot in the hexagon for the first time since his loss to Boyd Allen in their EFC featherweight title fight in August, which dented his professional record to 3-1.

Asked about his preparations for the fight, Nienaber said: “Training has been really good, I’ve met up with a new trainer in Shaun Prinsloo from Body Flow who is also my supplement sponsor.

“We’ve been focussing more on conditioning and fitness and less on striking. He really knows his stuff.”

BB Gun explained his ascendency in the division stakes from featherweight.

“I want to see how strong I am and how my body adapts to the division, it’s not necessarily a permanent move. I was actually fighting in the lightweight division during my amateur career so hopefully all goes well (against Kabesa).”
