Task team investigates Windmill Park shooting

A provincial taxi violence task team has been set up to investigate the Windmill Park shooting, which left five people dead and two injured, on November 20.

Provincial SAPS spokesperson, Col Lungelo Dlamini, says the gunmen who were travelling in a blue Volvo arrived at the Windmill Park taxi rank and started shooting at taxi owners and commuters.

Four people were fatally shot and died on the scene.

Another injured woman, who was taken to hospital, was hit by a taxi that had been fleeing the scene. She died on arrival.

The first four deceased had all sustained gunshot wounds

Another two injured people were taken to Natalspruit Hospital after also sustaining gunshot wounds.

High calibre firearms were used.

It is alleged that the conflict might have been between two taxi associations from Reiger Park and Vosloorus fighting over taxi routes.
