Case withdrawn against Taegrin’s murder accused

The case against the murder accused of Taegrin Morris (4) has been withdrawn, on Friday, November 14, at the Boksburg Magistrate's court.

No reason was given by the court to why the case was withdrawn.

The community of Reiger Park protesting outside the court, demanded that the court address them to explain its reason for letting the accused go.

It was a brief hearing, and court was adjourned in less than three minutes.

The decision was taken in absentia of the accused.

Thamsanqa Twala made his second court appearance on November 7, for a formal bail application, but the hearing was postponed to November 14.

Twala faced several charges, including murder and hijacking.

Twala told the court that he had appointed a new lawyer to represent him, adding that the lawyer would be ready to proceed with the bail application tomorrow.

Taegrin died when his parents’ VW Golf was hijacked in Reiger Park in July.

Three armed men apparently approached the vehicle in which Taegrin (4), his sister and parents were travelling in, and ordered the family out of the vehicle.

The little boy was caught in his seatbelt and dragged along the road for 8.5km as the hijackers drove off.

The car was later found abandoned outside the Municipal-owned dilapidated building at 39 Market Street.
