Reiger Park police step up stop and search efforts

In efforts to tackle crime and keep the streets of Reiger Park safe, the Gauteng SAPS units have stepped up ‘stop and search operation’ across the township and are combing all suspected hideouts of criminals.

According to a spokesperson for the Reiger Park SAPS, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, police from different police units are now carrying out stops and searches on a regular basis in the area.

“Stop and search is part of our normal crime prevention operations, but we have recently decided to intensify it,” explains Phathela.

He says that the use of stops and searches allow the police to prevent and detect crime (particularly violent crime) and keep the streets of the area safe.

Reiger Park has seen intermittent police lockdown in the past, due to the unacceptable rate of violent crimes reported.

Several dozens of police officers from different police units patrol the streets and carry out targeted and intelligence-led, roadblocks and raids.

They are taking place predominantly in areas where violence is taking place and on people who are known or suspected to be involved in violent crime.
