Case against ‘Chicken’ posponed for further investigation
The case against the man accused of killing the three-year-old Ramaphosa boy, Cuburne van Wyk (3), was postponed for further investigation.
Katlego Phoku, otherwise known as ‘Chicken’, appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on October 30.
The partially-burnt body of Cuburne was found at a mine dump in Reiger Park, three days after he went missing from Ramaphosa.
Exactly a week after the child was kidnapped, EMPD officers arrested Phoku in Lambton, on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering the little boy.
He was charged with murder and kidnapping, and has already made several court appearances.
Phoku was on parole when the murder occurred, but details about his past criminal conviction are, however, still sketchy.
The Parole Board decided to withdraw his parole, and deemed the accused not to have been sufficiently rehabilitated.
A witness is said to have positively identified Phoku as the man who was last seen walking with Cuburne.
The accused previously told the court that he would like to represent himself at trial, but he changed his tune when he made his third appearance on Tuesday, September 2.
He then applied for free legal aid representation. – @FanieBoksburg
