Sport Planet: Derby cancelled but international soccer lives on

Following the tragic and sudden death of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, this week’s version of Sport Planet will miss what would have been the week’s all-round biggest fixture: the Soweto Derby between Chiefs and Pirates.

The match has been instead postponed for a later date, yet to be confirmed.

All has not been lost, however, with football fans still in line for cracking matches including the Manchester derby in England and Bayern Munich welcoming fierce rivals Borrusia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena.

German Bundesliga

Bayern Munich vs Borrusia Dortmund, Allianz Arena, Saturday, November 1.

Arguably the biggest club match in Germany, Bayern and Dortmund will renew their rivalry as Jurgen Klopps BVB side travel to the Allianz arena in search of a win that would kick-start their season. Klopp’s men have had an uncharacteristic start to the season and sit in ninth spot with just two wins from their first nine matches. Meanwhile, Bayern, who lead the league, will be looking to stretch their four-point lead on the summit.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7.30pm.

My prediction: Yes, they’re underdogs, but Bayern take out the best of BVB – Bayern 2-2 Dortmund.

Logan Green’s prediction: Bayern 3-1 Dortmund.

English Premier League

Manchester City vs Manchester United, Etihad Stadium, Sunday, November 2.

It will certainly be interesting to find out whether City are more superior than their United counterparts as City fullback Aleksandar Kolarov recently pointed out. The Etihad hasn’t been a good hunting ground for the Red Devils in recent times and they’ll want to change that and keep pace with leaders Chelsea whom they trail by ten points. On the other hand, City will not need more motivation as they’ll also want to keep the pressure on Chelsea and earn the bragging rights in Manchester. Will City continue their recent dominance over United or will United claim their first big win of the season under Louis van Gaal?

Kick-off is scheduled for 3.30pm.

My prediction: Man City 1-1 Man United.

Green’s prediction: Man City 2-2 Man United.
