The Parlotones rocks local school

Parkrand Primary School was privileged enough to host one of South Africa’s well-known rock bands, The Parlotones, on Tuesday, October 21.

According to one of the organisers and Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) committee members, Beverley Benjamin, the gig formed part of the school’s fundraising events.

Funds raised will be used for special projects the school aims to tackle in the near future.

For the past three years, The Parlotones has performed at schools’ fundraising events, however, this was the first time the band visited Parkrand Primary.

The band agrees to these performances to support the communities.

“School kids don’t always have the opportunity to see us perform live, because it will either be too late at night or they’re too young to get into the venues we perform,” says Glen Hodgson from The Parlotones.

“This is a way to play for them as well.”

Benjamin says The Parlotones agreed to do the gig as part of their charity plan.

“We are striving for bigger and better next year and would like to get them back, if we can.”

Pupils who sold more than 20 tickets for this fundraiser had the opportunity to meet-and-greet The Parlotones’ band members.

They were Amber Smith, Jayden Walker, Connor Macnauchton, Leigh Alberts, Megan Shebab, Storm Hardcastle, Rebecca Postma and Caitlin Tolken.

The Parlotones have just finished an unplugged tour around the country for all the Barnyard Theatres, and are busy planning a summer tour for the end of the year for the coastal towns across the country.

Next year they will be touring Europe and Asia. – @IschkeBoksburg
