An in-depth look at why Africa fails

For those who love politics, and also for students of history, then Why Africa Fails will leave you will plenty of food for thought.

Book: Why Africa Fails – the Case of Growth before Democracy

Author: Elly Twineyo-Kamugisha

Publisher: Tafelberg:

Review: A refreshing and honest look at why Africa keeps on failing to be a super power.

Twineyo-Kamugisha, an African himself, holds back no punches in his survey of sub-Saharan countries, surveying what has worked since colonialism ended and extrapolating solutions for Africa in its current state.

Africa sits with many problems, experiencing poverty, civil wars, epidemic diseases, corruption, dictatorships, and coups.

Even though the continent is extremely rich in natural resources, Africa has constantly failed to be a global power.

Twineyo-Kamugisha takes an analytical look at reasons for such failure, such as the fairness of world trade, the role played by foreign countries, including the US and China, and also which policies have worked and which have not.

He stops the syndrome of ”apportioning the blame” and calls upon Africans to deal with their problems. He argues that African malaise is due to its own blunders, such as terrible leadership and corruption, casting a spotlight on where the wealth of Africa has gone.

Twineyo-Kamugisha takes the controversial standpoint that democracy is unnecessary for the welfare of Africa.

Why Africa Fails is a brutally honest look at a continent that should be basking in glory and, if his findings are taken seriously, then Africa can change its status from ”a scar” to ”a beacon of hope”.

Twineyo-Kamugish reminds us that even though there is much ignorance about this beautiful continent, there is also hope, but then it is up to Africa to resolve its problems and end the beggar mentality.
