Residents angry over Bokkie Park

Boksburg residents have expressed their frustration over the state of the Bokkie Park and the recent fire that occurred.

According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for Emergency Services, on September 25, a fire broke out at the park.

He says that around 1.50pm they received a call stating that there was a grass fire.

“On the arrival, the emergency unit vehicle from Boksburg Central Fire Station found a pile of wooden poles well alight, including their dumping site.”

Fire-fighters called for assistance and a water tanker arrived.

“The fire was eventually extinguished without any injuries or fatalities sustained by any person or animal in the vicinity,” says Ntladi.

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that she has been living across from the park for 15 years, and for the past three years the park has deteriorated.

“There are unhealthy smells, insects and rodents and now the park has caught alight, so to me that was a huge danger to people in the immediate area and visitors.”

She questions if the park is now an environmental and safety hazard.

The metro was contacted for comment. At the time of going to print, no comment had been received. – @CarmenBoksburg

  1. My mom and I took my little one (4moths) to the bokkiepark on Sunday. While loading the pram in the back of the car a fight broke out between two youngsters the one removed his belt to strangle the boy with him a minute later the older one pulled out a knife. There was a blond lady that tried to stop them but couldn’t and even the car guard just walked away we drove as fast as we could just to get away. The bokkiepark isn’t safe anymore and some of the animals have sustained bad injuries and that are really suffering.
