Taxi rank shooting linked to route dispute – source

The 10 men arrested for their alleged involvement in the Boksburg CBD shooting are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, October 6, on attempted murder and public violence charges.

People who were at the Boksburg Taxi Rank during the shooting narrowly escaped being struck by bullets, after a gang of gunmen in what appears to be four kombis and a car, arrived and allegedly opened fire on the people at the taxi rank on Thursday morning, October 2.

The rank is located at the corner of Trichardts Road and Leeuwpoort Street.

Police could not yet confirm if this is taxi violence-related, but according to a very reliable source, this incident is apparently related to the ongoing fight between rival taxi associations over the Holomisa-Boksburg route.

The source stated that the Reiger Park and Windmill Park taxi operators work together, and belong to one association – the Reiger Park Taxi Association – which has the legal right to operate on the route.

According to the police, two rounds were fired in the incident, but no injuries were reported at the taxi rank.

It was also found that some of the kombis’ number plates did not correspond with the license disks; the vehicles were confiscated. – @FanieBoksburg
