A super-duper donation to the SPCA

A Super Duper Fundraising Day was recently held at Oppie Stoep (Van Dyk Park Shopping Centre), where attendees were requested to donate non-perishable dog and cat food, as well as animal blankets.

All these goods were put together and handed over to the Brakpan SPCA.

The event had no entry fee and, on the day, entertainment included a mini flea market, clowns, a bike wash with models, a car wash, jumping castles, a dog show, a static car show and live entertainment.

One of the organisers of the event, Linda Oosthuizen, says the plan is to host four shows a year to entertain audiences as well as raise funds for the SPCA and various non-profit organisations.

“The artists are willing to come again at no fee. We would also like the community to include the animals in their monthly groceries, as this should be a community effort,” says Oosthuizen.

Oosthuizen adds that biker group Desert Dogs MC lent a helping hand in the initiative.

Chairperson of the Brakpan SPCA, Chris Badenhorst, says few people are mindful of the needs of the animals and the SPCA.

He adds that the SPCA, on an ongoing basis, has anything between 60 and 80 animals.

“It’s awesome to have people who still think about us and we would like to thank the organisers for creating awareness about the animals,” he says.

Oosthuizen and Deon Pieterson are the organisers of the Super Duper event and other projects within the community of Van Dyk Park which, they hope, will keep young people out of trouble. -@TumeloBoksburg
