Cinema Goggles – August 29
Leave the winter blanket at home and get out to the cinema, to get either a thrill or a giggle from these two top films, starting on Friday, August 29:
Lucy
Genre: Action, Thriller
Starring: Morgan Freeman, Scarlett Johansson
This adrenaline-fuelled, visual effects-driven action thriller is set in Asia, in a slightly futuristic world that is run by the mob, street gangs, drug addicts and corrupt cops. Lucy is a woman who is kidnapped, surgically adapted to smuggle drugs in her body and forced to work as a drug mule for a group of big-money gangsters. However, when an accident causes the drugs inside her to flood her system, she acquires instantaneous superhuman strength and immense intelligence. Armed with these, Lucy sets out to claim retribution from those who tried to harm her.
Tammy
Genre: Comedy
Starring: Dan Aykroyd, Kathy Bates, Mark Duplass, Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon
Tammy is having a bad day. She’s written off her car, been fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint and, instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbour in her own house. It’s time to hit the road and start anew. The bad news is she’s broke and without wheels. However, she soon learns that her grandma, Pearl, has a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Maybe a road trip, with grandma riding shotgun, may be just what Tammy needs.
