EMPD computer system down till September

The Advertiser has it on good authority that the new computer system used by the EMPD is not working correctly and, therefore, those requesting to pay their fines cannot do so, as this data cannot be captured.

Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, says that a service provider, fully compliant in terms of Supply Chain Management policy, has been appointed by the EMPD.

“The appointed service provider in turn appointed a sub-contractor whose services were found to be inadequate to satisfy the EMPD requirements in terms of fines administration,” he says.

Supt Kgasago says that in replacing the sub-contractor, which did not render a satisfactory service, a gap occurred which resulted in the administrative gremlins momentarily taking place preventing a smooth administrative function of the fines.

He says that a fully-fledged and smooth-sailing administrative support will be fully-functional by September 1, and that a licence to access all the necessary information has been obtained by the service provider.

“With regards to warrants, the system which captures all our cases has been re-activated this was on Monday, August 11.

“Hand-written receipts are issued in the event the system is down, and stringent control measures are in place to prevent corruption.”

He says that all the courts can now finalise all legally and properly authorised warrants.

“The system deployed in EMPD has an audit trail and daily reconciliation facility to monitor each transaction performed on the system to combat corruption.” – @CarmenBoksburg
