You can help clean the geese’s home

Similarly to the Bokkie Park and its animals being close to the hearts to members of the community, so does the dam at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station and its geese.

Kim Buys and her family visit the geese on a regular basis.

“It is a lovely outing for the kids and the geese are fed, but lately, the place has been in such an appalling state that I’ve decided to gather my family and friends to help clean up the dam and surrounding grass area where the geese are living,” says Buys.

They’ve approached the head of the fire station, David Tshabalala, and got his approval to clean up the area.

They’ve decided to make a positive change and braved the cold to do their bit for the community and the geese living at the dam on Saturday, July 19.

To their disgust the place was covered with litter – plastic bags, bottles and car parts were removed from the dam area.

“At 4pm we had a total of 100 black bags full of litter and we were not even halfway through cleaning the area.”

They will, however, continue to clean the dam and its surroundings.

Buys invites all interested parties to join them at the dam on Saturday, August 2, at 9am.
