Be aware of your surrounding to prevents hijacking – SAPS

The SAPS is advising motorists, travelling with children, to always be aware of their surroundings.

This comes after the death of four-year-old Taegrin Morris.

Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, when you stop at a place, constantly be aware of who walks past or approaches your vehicle.

“Be calm if a person approaches your vehicle, when stressed you will not be able to react calmly and you will only make the criminal more stressed and to react on impulse,” she says.

She adds that the only way to survive a hijacking is to hand over keys and goods on demand.

“Do not try to defend yourself as this will only end up in a disaster. Be calm and step away from your vehicle, if you have children in your vehicle, inform your hijacker of this.”

Lieut Coetzer further advises that parents should not try to fetch their child from the vehicle.

“Ask the hijacker calmly to give your child to you.

“Stay away from the vehicle and do not attempt to fetch anything from your vehicle. Our lives are much more valuable than anything else.” – @CarmenBoksburg
