Two found guilty for murder – court news

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Lereko Mahlatsi (36), from Jet Park, and Makgoka Rabothatha (36), from Delmore Park, appeared in court on a charge of murder.

They pleaded not-guilty on February 3, were found guilty and sentenced on May 26.

Mahlatsi was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment, of which three years have been suspended for five years.

Rabothatha was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment.

On February 24, 2013, the accused murdered Zolisa Jokana by hitting him with a bottle and stabbing him with an unknown object.

Magistrate Abel Shilubane presided over the matter, and Maria Olivier appeared on behalf of the State.

* Michael Mahkngu (30) appeared in court on a charge of house break-in with the intent to steal.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on May 23, to seven years imprisonment, of which two years are suspended for five years.

On January 20, the accused broke into the business of Bradley Chetty, and stole various electrical appliances.

Magistrate Abel Shilubane presided over the matter, and Maria Olivier appeared on behalf of the State.

* Simphiwe Nkamuble (27), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of kidnapping and rape.

He pleaded not-guilty on December 11, was found guilty, and sentenced on May 5. He entered a leave to appeal on May 20, and was sentenced to six years imprisonment for kidnapping and life imprisonment for rape. The sentences are to run concurrently.

On January 28, 2013, the accused kidnapped and raped an 18-year-old woman.

Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided over the matter, and Leon Naude appeared on behalf of the State.

* Siphamandla Zwane (24), from Kathlehong, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty on February 11, and sentenced on May 29, to 24 months correctional supervision.

On January 30, the accused stole men’s underwear, to the value of R100, from Pep.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Jabu Shwange (22), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of possession of dagga.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty on February 26, and sentenced on May 29, to 24 months correctional supervision.

On January 31, the accused was found in possession of a small amount of dagga.

He had previous convictions of theft from February 2006, March 2007, May 2007, and possession of drugs from January 2011.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Thokozani Dlamin (19), from Vosloorus, and Sam Mbunye (19), from Vosloorus appeared in court on a charge of robbery.

They pleaded guilty, and were found guilty on April 2, and sentenced on May 29, to three years imprisonment.

On January 7, the men assaulted a man and stole his groceries.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Basimane Radebe (19), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty on May 6, and sentenced on May 29, to 18 months imprisonment.

On February 18, the accused stole a laptop, mouse and keys from Retshidisidswe Ntise.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.
