Grade 4 pupil assaults teachers at school

BOKSBURG: Learner discipline lies with the School Governing Body guided by the school’s code of conduct, and if required, can recommend expulsion of the learner to the Head of Department.

This is according to Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane, in response to an incident at a primary school in Boksburg, where a Grade 4 pupil assaulted teachers and fellow learners.

The pupil was allegedly suspended for a few days after the incident occurred, but then returned to school with no change in his behaviour.

Sekhonyane says the district will dispatch psychologists to the school to assist with counselling to victims and perpetrator.

“The educators have within their constitutional rights to file charges with the South African Police Services. In the meantime, the perpetrator will have to attend a diversion programme.”
