Wishing for healthy and happy communities

While Boksburg resident Jennifer Williamson is serving her articles at CN Sweetnam Attorneys in Houghton, this 23-year-old lady is also paying her duties for the country as a Miss Earth SA 2014 semi-finalist.

The Advertiser met with Jennifer while she was busy creating a beautiful vegetable garden for the Zandi’s Angels Orphanage, which is one of the projects she has to complete as a Miss Earth contestant.

Jennifer, who completed her LLB degree at the University of Pretoria, entered the Miss Earth SA contest, as she understands the effect what knowledge can have on a person’s life.

“I believe that Miss Earth SA empowerment and leadership programme is an important platform for imparting knowledge about sustainability and conservation,” says Williamson.

According to Jennifer, the Miss Earth South Africa contest is a leadership programme that aims to empower young South African women with the knowledge to create a difference in their plight to combat the destruction of their natural heritage.

Being a part of the contest has given Jennifer an opportunity to help and support those less fortunate than herself.

She has been involved in various charitable projects, such as the vegetable garden project and an Easter hospital drive, which has allowed her to educate young South Africans about the importance of sustainable living and protecting their environment.

“Miss Earth SA has opened my eyes to the needs of our communities and the challenges we face balancing growth and sustainable living.

“I have met many inspirational people within my community that are really trying to make a difference to the lives of others.

“It is the most rewarding experience to help others whilst growing personally. I have enjoyed this experience immensely and hope to continue this journey with Miss Earth SA.”

Jennifer’s main sponsor throughout her journey as a semi-finalist is Eqstra Flexifleet, who have assisted her with all her main projects by providing both financial and logistic support.

She has also received help from family, friends and people within the community.

The Miss Earth SA 2014 gala will take place in August.

“If I were to win Miss Earth SA 2014, I would like to inspire and educate young South Africans to conserve and protect their surroundings. My wish is for healthy and happy communities living in a sustainable environment in this beautiful country of ours,” says Williamson
