Metro to restore streetlight panels, manhole covers

The street lights in Cinderella and Parkrand were vandalised and have been placed on the department’s repair programme.

This is according to the metro acting spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, in reaction to a situation that was brought under the Advertiser’s attention.

Apparently the streetlights haven’t been working for a week and the access panels of the lights were bent and the wires torn out.

“It seems as if someone has been sabotaging the lights or it’s just bad maintenance from the metro’s side,” says a resident.

Another problem mentioned in these two suburbs, is the missing manhole covers.

Gadebe says that the theft of steeling manhole covers is an ongoing problem and the department is continuously looking for alternative material covers.

“The stormwater systems in the areas will be inspected and missing stormwater covers will be replaced.”
