Boksburg police officer murdered

Boksburg police are mourning the death of their colleague, Const Marius John, who died mysteriously a few days ago.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Lieut Mathanda Ngobese, John’s body was found in the bushes, near Freedom Park informal settlement, Villa Liza, on Sunday, April 20, a day after he went missing.

“According to a post-mortem report, John suffered a gunshot wound. Investigators are still trying to establish where and how John was killed. What we know at this stage is that he was hijacked of his car and his cellphone was stolen,” explains Ngobese.

The car and the cellphone are not yet recovered.

John’s colleagues are so upset by their colleague’s death, and referred to him as a brother and a best police officer, who was dedicated to his job.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the murder, but were subsequently released, because police were unable to link them with the killing.

John, who is originally from the Northern Cape had earlier left his home in Boksburg South, saying he was going to drop someone off in Dawn Park, but did not return.

His girlfriend got worried and went to report the matter to the police.

Police had opened a murder case, and investigations are still ongoing.

His memorial service will be held on April 30, at a Church belonging to New Beginnings, and is located along Leeuwpoort Street, Boksburg CBD.

John’s death happened a few months after another police office, who was based in Reiger Park, died after she was stabbed to death.

Her boyfriend, a police officer was arrested in connection with the death, but he was also released, because police failed to present the court with evidence that link him to the killing.

Anyone with information about the killing of John is asked to contact the police on 10111.
