Girls introduced to retail environment

Hirsch’s Boksburg recently hosted the Grade 10 Learners of St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls, taking them on an educational tour of the retail environment.

The afternoon started off with an interactive dance “turn around” to get the girls’ energy levels higher.

Brigitte Thysse, PRO for Hirsch’s, explained the roles of PR in the retail environment and displayed a few pictures of staff team building events, and cook-offs.

Hirsch’s offered the girls a hands-on approach to the business world and showed the learners how Hirsch’s functions and what they, as a business, have to offer.

The girls were taken through the different staff positions in the company and discussed the formalities and tasks that each day requires to give the learners an open mind of the retail industry.

Norman Brassel, Hirsch’s regional manager, spoke to them on the retail environment and what it is expected to be like many years from now.

Norman also mentioned his accounting background and how he moved from a desk job to the retail environment, as he enjoyed working with people and has now grown Hirsch’s from strength-to-strength.

Colleen Qvist, an empowerment coach, spoke to the learners about day-to-day habits, emotional behaviour, self-esteem and giving oneself some quiet time by using breathing techniques.

The tour ended with an exciting Easter egg hunt. Goodiebags were handed out while the girls browsed through the store.
