Traffic disruptions on Nellmapius

The Nellmapius-bridge, over the R21 in Centurion, is currently being doubled to enable it to carry increased traffic.

Vusi Mona, spokesperson for Sanral, says that the project has reached the stage where the new and old bridge decks are to be joined together.

“This will necessitate some disruption to the traffic on the roads surrounding the bridge, but this will be kept to a minimum,” he explains.

Work began on April 14 and is planned to be completed within a month.

“One lane will be closed on the southern side of the bridge, but two-way traffic will still be maintained,” he says.

The doubling of the Nellmapius-bridge is being funded by property developers who are making substantial upgrades in the area.

Motorists are advised to observe all warning signs, be aware of changed driving conditions and are requested to exercise caution and patience when driving through the construction work zone.

Speed restrictions will be strictly enforced.
