The body of Motaung was found by a passer-by in an open veld in the settlement at about 5pm on February 23.
The detective leading the investigation, Detective-Const Simphiwe Gumede, says Motaung was raped before she was strangled to death.
Police are baffled to understand a motive for the murder.
According to Gumede, forensic experts collected evidence and police are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
“I appeal to the residents of Boksburg to contact us if they know anything which they think could help us. We would also like to speak to those who saw Motaung, the night before she was found dead.”
