This is according to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson, William Tladi, who says the taxi driver apparently lost control of the vehicle after an entire wheel came off the vehicle.
Soon after, the vehicle overturned and rolled on the road.
One occupant – a woman – was declared dead on the scene, and the 13 survivors were transported to Natalspruit Hospital.
“This appeared to have been a single vehicle accident, and it is believed that the damaged wheel had caused the accident. However, the reason as to why the vehicle rolled is still under investigation by law enforcement agencies,” says Tladi.
“Ambulances from nearby emergency services station were dispatched to the scene to assist with the evacuation of patients,” adds Tladi.
