Armed robbery suspects tracked down

Five suspects in a red Toyota Corolla robbed a businessman on January 31, at around 8.30am, in Graceland.

The suspects made off with R4 000 in cash, and several goods including cigarette cartons.

According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, three of the suspects took off on foot towards Ramaphosa informal settlement, while the two in the vehicle raced towards Elsburg.

He says that a friend of the businessman, who happened to stop his vehicle outside the business while the robbery was in progress, was shot at by the robbers.

“The Katlehong, Vosloorus and Germiston precinct stations officers, backed up by the EMPD Intervention Unit, was put on high alert to spot the vehicle.

“The vehicle was tracked to Giyani Street in Vosloorus at around 2pm, along with the four occupants.

“The stolen goods were found inside the vehicle, but the firearm used as well as the stolen cash have yet to be recovered,” says Kgasago.

He says that the four suspects, whose ages range between 24 and 31, were booked at Elsburg police station on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of suspected stolen goods.

They are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
