Investigation continues into birthday horror

Boksburg SAPS detectives continue their search for the heartless attackers, who brutally attacked Brogan Mahony on his 26th birthday, on December 14.

Brogan was found by paramedics at 3am, on Commissioner Street, next to Absa, after he was brutally attacked and left unconscious.

“A scene examination was carried out as police tried to piece together the events leading to the attack, and we ask for public assistance and information about the assault on Brogan,” states Boksburg Police spokesperson, Lieut Kwenzakwakhe Ngobese.

“Detectives are in the process of legally obtaining a video footage from a business situated next to the crime scene.”

According to his mother, Xavier Mahony, Brogan was rushed to Glynwood Hospital in Benoni, with severe head injuries, resulting from allegedly being beaten with a brick on the head, which was found at the scene.

Neurosurgeon Dr Enrico Branca, who is the doctor in the Neuro Ward where Brogan was being treated, confirmed that Brogan is brain damaged.

According to Brogan’s mother, he was recently transferred to Midstream Medical Centre, Midrand.

“He can’t talk and he can’t walk,” says his mother.

“Due to his condition since the incident occurred, Brogan is unable to give police a detailed description of suspect or details of the events leading up to the attack.”

Xavier says it has been very difficult time for them as a family, because they do not know what happened on the night in question.

She adds that there have been many speculations regarding the incident, and she just wants to know if it was a fight, or an attack by strangers or people that Brogan knew.

Xavier says that the last person seen with Brogan was his cousin, who parted ways with him at midnight.
