Diablo III starts with a falling star colliding with the Tristram Cathedral and descending into its lower depths, awakening many desecrated corpses and other monsters and putting the town of New Tristram in immediate peril, and sending Deckard Cain, a recurring character in the series, into its depths. Subsequently afterwards, your character enters New Tristram’s vicinity, though from where is determined by your character’s backstory, and begins performing errands to protect the town and get into the cathedral to investigate and acquire the fallen star. Your journey does take you to various locations in its 3 acts, but the beginning in Tristram allows you to experience the largest amount of backstory from Deckard Cain and Leah and exposes you to a lot of the fantastic lore that the Diablo series has to offer.
