Mayor calls call centre “ineffective”

Improving service delivery with the new fleet may be “rendered impossible by a non-effective call centre” says mayor.

During the unveiling of the 270 new service vehicles, Ekurhuleni mayor, Mondli Gungubele, released a statement, admitting that improving service delivery with the new fleet may be “rendered impossible by a non-effective call centre”.

Ekurhuleni residents and the Democratic Alliance in Ekurhuleni have in the past expressed their concern about the challenges posed by the poor service rendered by the emergency services call centre.

In his statement, Gungubele said that he and the metro have heard public outcries about the call centre and they have listened.

“The call centre remains the most critical priority for the metro to capacitate and overhaul.

“It is, after all, a major part of the city’s medium- to long-term plans to upgrade the current facility, based in Bedfordview,” he said.

Gungubele assured community members, saying that the city of Ekurhuleni believes that the people of Ekurhuleni need a proactive, organic and activist municipality.

“We are prepared to give this to the people at all costs,” he said.
