Flying squad crime in brief

Suspects aged between 32 to 43 years were arrested during routine operations.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) dealt criminals and their illicit activities another blow, after arresting eight suspects, two of which were on charges of pointing a firearm.

Here is the round-up of routine operations that took place from May 26 to 28.

Possession of drugs
Three suspects were arrested when they were allegedly found in possession of drugs at Station and Victoria roads, Brakpan, as well as Bosch Street and Voortrekker Road, Kempton Park.

During the arrest in Brakpan, another suspect was nabbed for attempting to prevent officers from performing their duties.

Nyaope and meth were recovered in these separate incidents.

Pointing a firearm
While performing duties on the N12 near Atlas Road on May 26 at 18:00, members were stopped by an individual claiming that the two men travelling in a white Toyota Etios pointed a firearm at them.

“Officers gave chase and the vehicle was safely pulled over to the side of the road,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“Inside a licensed Glock pistol and 17 rounds of live ammunition was recovered. Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested.”

Possession of stolen motorcycles
On May 27 at 08:30, members received information from a tracking company of suspected stolen motorcycles possibly located in Barcelona Extension 22, Etwatwa.

“At the premises, BFS officers found two motorcycles, which had been stripped,” said Giblin.

“The bikes were reported as stolen in Springs and Krugerdorp. Two suspects were arrested.”
