Footballer needs help to get to Portugal

“I want to go to Portugal and show them how we play South African football.”

Eighteen-year-old soccer player Kurstly Peterson, who hopes to play for one of the big clubs in the country and maybe even move abroad, needs help to play in the prestigious youth soccer tournament, the Iber Cup.

Kurstly is one of the best of seven players chosen in the Football Institute’s senior team to play for one of the best teams in Portugal, Estoril Praia, which will compete in the Iber Cup, but his parents do not have the money for the trip, which is R50 000.

He appeals for donations to realise his dream of playing abroad, and his parents will host a fundraiser at MM in Reiger Park on May 26, where they will sell roti and curry to raise funds.

According to Kurstly, the people who help him with the funding would not be disappointed because he plans to make the best of the opportunity.

Kurstly Peterson (18) has been invited to play soccer in Portugal.

“I know it will not be easy for people to donate money to someone they do not kno

w, but they will not regret it. I want to go to Portugal and show them how we play South African football.

“I got this opportunity because I’m a hardworking player. I am always keen to improve my playing style. Part of me expected to get this opportunity because I worked hard for it, and I’m excited to go to Portugal to showcase my talent and represent my country.

He added that he wants to represent his country well in Portugal.

“I’m proud of myself, and I pray to God that I manage to raise the money. I need it for accommodation, travelling, food and a new soccer jersey that I need to buy.

Kurstly’s mother, Deneile Peterson, said she was proud of her son for getting this chance.

“My child deserves this opportunity, but it’s difficult for me, as a parent, to see my child achieve something when I don’t have the money to assist him.

“We are hosting a fundraiser on May 26 to raise money for him,” said Deneile.
