Turkish delight for kickboxers
The athletes returned home with 13 medals - five golds, one silver and seven bronzes.
The president of the South African Kickboxing Association (Saka), Aslam Mahomed, congratulated the kickboxers who helped SA finish 13th at the eighth Turkish Open in Türkiye, which ended on May 21.
The athletes returned home with 13 medals – five golds, one silver and seven bronzes – with two Benonians, Ahmad and Salaamah Mahomed, among the winners.
Ahmad, from Benoni Muslim School, claimed two gold medals, one silver and one bronze, while Salamaah, from Summerfields Primary, returned with two golds.
“It’s a proud moment indeed with such great results. South Africa brought their A-game to the tournament,” said Aslam, also president of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (Wako) Africa and a Wako IF board member.
The tournament drew over 3 700 kickboxers from 47 countries.
Aslam and his team will briefly rest before preparing for the 28th Hungarian Kickboxing World Cup in Budapest from June 15 to 18.
