Boksburg Magistrate’s Court in Brief

A woman was sent to jail for 18 months for stealing items worth over R9 500 from a local retailer.

The following cases were recenty finalised in the Boksburg/Vosloorus magistrate’s courts:

Murder
Prince Jabulani Mokoena (35) of Katlehong was sentenced to 15 years in jail on April 4 for murder, and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty of the offence on the day of sentencing.
On May 21, 2017, Mokoena stabbed Tsepo Makola with a knife/sharp instrument, which caused his death.
Magistrate Harichand presided and Prosecutor Mnyandu represented the State.

Theft
• On April 14, Mosa Khumalo (26) of Daveyton was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for five years, for theft, and declared unfit to possess a firearm. She pleaded guilty and was found guilty on the same day.
On March 23, Khumalo was caught after stealing beauty/personal hygiene products from Pick n Pay to the value of R3 691,60.
Magistrate Havenga presided and Prosecutor Lingani represented the State.

• On April 14, Elizabeth Lungile Kekana (38) of Soweto pleaded guilty to, was found guilty of and sentenced for theft. On March 12, Kekana stole linen to the value of R2 599 from Continental Linen.
Her sentence was 18 months’ imprisonment, of which 12 months is suspended for five years. Magistrate Havenga presided and Prosecutor Lingani represented the State.

• Zithelo Ncube (20) of Berea pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of theft on March 29.
On April 11, she was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm. On March 9, Ncube stole items worth R9 543,40 from Pick n Pay. The items included 11 bottles of SPF50 lotion at R209,99 per bottle and five jars of coffee at R165,99 each.
Magistrate Viviers presided and Prosecutor Lingani represented the State.
