Gauteng A takes baseball champs after decade-long drought

Fans enjoyed the 11 days of the tournament.

The Gauteng Province Baseball Council’s (GPBC) senior A team stunned its archrivals, Cape Town Baseball Federation (CTBF) A team, with a 12-6 defeat in the final match of the SA National Championships that took place at the Cardinals Baseball field (Boksburg Stadium) on April 11.

The GPBC finally ended a decade-long drought of no championship glory.

The Gauteng team settled for silverware when it lost 11-1 to the CTBF A team last year in the final match of the championships. This year, they changed the tide to become the champions of the prestigious baseball tournament.

Kieran Cree, a pitcher, eliminated two CTBF batsmen, and the GPBC continued where it left off, with Rowen Ebersohn and O’Connor producing phenomenal performances when they had to bat for the GBPC, increasing the score to 6-1. The home side still led the match.

The final match ended with the GPBC winning 12-6 against the strong CTBF side.
