Karatekas rake in medals

The club won five gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals.

The Dojo New World Shotokan claimed 22 medals at the Gauteng Karate Federation trials on February 18.

The club won five gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals.

According to sensei Takis Chaniotakos, the event was held to select the Ekurhuleni Karate Foundation (EKF) members to represent Gauteng at the Karate South Africa national championships next month.

Chaniotakos said the karatekas also received their EKF colours.

The medal winners:

• Senpai Luke Scrase, bronze for kata;

• Senpai Aiden Corregedor, bronze for kumite;

• Senpai Kayleen Chetty, gold for kumite;

• Harry Nienaber, bronze for kumite;

• Christopher du Plooy, good spirit shown;

• Milano Dona, bronze for kumite;

• Jonathan van der Merwe, silver for kata, bronze for kumite;

• Jean Terry du Preez, silver for kata, gold for kumite;

• Viara Lalsai, bronze for kata and bronze for kumite;

• Revae Rampurtab, bronze for kata, gold for kumite;

• Shaielle Rampurtab silver for kumite;

• Gosiame Kgware, bronze for kata, silver for kumite;

• Karabelo Kgware, silver for kata, gold for kumite;

• Mi’aad Alli, silver for kata, bronze for kumite;

• Santiago Batista, gold for kata, silver for kumite.
