Boksburg senior beat Edenvale 6-5

Both teams were playing good football.

Boksburg FC senior team beat Edenvale 6-5 in a thrilling friendly encounter at the JP Bezuidenhout Stadium on February 7.

Edenvale punished Boksburg FC in the early minutes of the first half when a diagonal pass was intercepted by the midfielder of the home team which led to the first goal of the match. The goal came from Sabelo Sityeni.

Boksburg, the visiting side, instantly retaliated and equalised through its left-winger Phaswana Maponyane, who pulled out a carling long-range shot that went passed the goalkeeper.

Phawsana tried another long-range shot but it went wide. Both teams went on the attack but opportunities were missed.

The home side increased its tally to 2-1 thanks to a wonderful goal from their striker.

Boksburg FC tried to level points, but both of their attempts were denied by the goalkeeper of the home side. Boksburg equalised through a good play from their right winger Onalenna Mokoke who took on the defenders. Half-time the score read 2-2.

Mlando Shongwe, who was introduced as an attacking midfielder in the second half, increased the tally for Boksburg by scoring a brace.

A substitute for Boksburg, who was introduced in the second half as a left winger, Musa Langa, scored immediately after coming onto the park. Boksburg led 5-2.

In the last minutes of the second half the home side gained the momentum to score their third goal through a good build-up from the middle of the pitch.

Edenvale made the game interesting when they scored to make it 5-4. Boksburg, however, did not flinch under pressure by celebrating their sixth goal. Edenvale fought to the end and was rewarded for their efforts with a fifth goal.
