Lions’ recycling drive changes lives

The Lions have a working partnership with Benoni schools and would like to also have the Boksburg schools on board.

The Benoni Lakes Lions again had a successful collection of recyclable goods for charity on February 4, and they encourage local schools to support the initiative.

As part of the monthly initiative, held at the park on the corner of Nightingale and Dodo streets in Atlasville from 08:00 to 10:00, they collected at least two bags of recyclable plastic material, including bottle tops and bread tags.
These items were donated to Tops and Tags to give wheelchairs to the needy.

They also collected boxes of recyclable electronic goods, including printer cartridges and old printers. These items go to recyclers, like the Desco Electronic Recyclers’ container at Belvedere School, for recycling in an environmentally friendly way.

Lion Beaulieu Maré described the event as a success and thanked the community for its continued support since the project’s inception early last year.
“We had a good response since we started. It’s been amazing, and it is for that reason that we have been coming back here every month.
“I also extend our appreciation to the Atlasville organisation for its support.”

The Benoni Lakes Lions would like to team up with school children to collect recyclable material to help the needy across the East Rand. Collect your old electronics to stop them from ending up in landfills.

According to Maré, the Lions have a working partnership with many Benoni schools and would like to have the Boksburg schools on board.
For more information or to arrange collection, interested schools and organisations can call Maré on 082 971 5472.
Those who want to know more about the Lions or become a member, can contact Maré.

The next recycling drive is on March 4 at the same spot.
Items to be collected include printer cartridges, printers and other electronic goods, plastic bottle tops and bread tags, sunglasses and spectacles, and books.
