Goudrand devastated by loss of learners

The school will hold an event in honour of the children.

Goudrand Primary School is devastated by the loss of three of its learners in the gas tanker explosion on Christmas Eve.

Sebastian (14, LSEN class), Adrian (12, Grade Four) and Gerrie Brits (10, Grade Two) and their sister, Jamel Eales (16), who was a former learner at the school, died in the blast along with Jamel’s boyfriend, Ian de Lange (25).
Principal Gert Botes said it was a huge loss for the school.

“The children were close to our hearts, and it’s tragic that we lost three learners and a former learner,” he said.

He expressed his condolences to the family.

“This is an extremely difficult time for the mother, and she has our sympathy. I did phone her at the time of the accident. We will assist them where we can.”

A memorial service was held for the youngsters at Thrive Church on January 5.
