Blackball United wins FC Real Tournament

The coach of the U13 team is happy to continue collecting trophies.

Blackball United U13 team won eight games to be champions of the FC Real Tournament that took place in Randburg from October 28 to 29.

In the final match of the tournament, Blackball United beat FC Real 2-0.

The first goal of Blackball United resulted from a good interchange play between Lange Masuku and Poloko Lethola. Lethola pulled out a left-footed long-range shot that went past the goalkeeper of the home side and went inside the net after receiving the ball from Masuku.

The visiting side continued to mount pressure on the home side. Zunaid Ground of the visiting side increased the tally by keeping his composure and beating the goalkeeper. The home side squandered several scoring opportunities.

Coach of Blackball United Muzi Masuku said he had confidence in the team going into the tournament.

“My players are always willing to sacrifice their leisure time and train, so I was expecting them to do well. Our game plan was to win our matches and show respect to our opponents.

“We didn’t want to go there bigheaded as the champions of the Easterns league but to leave a mark in the tournament. And because we always invite God in whatever we do, we came back with more than that. We came back as victors.

“I would like to congratulate all the players that played in the tournament, especially Poloko Lethola who was the leading goal scorer of the tournament with eight goals. Siphosethu Nhlengethwa was voted as the most consistent player and Alzaan Wenger won the best goalkeeper award for only conceding one goal,” he said.

Two teams (U10 and U13) from Blackball United won the tournament.
