Waste thrown outside of dumping site affects residents

The dumping site's yard is full of waste.

The Impala Park mini dump site is full of waste and the residents of the neighbouring areas have resorted to dumping outside the dump site premises.

Some residents of the area said since the waste is dumped outside the premises, they have problems with rodents and flies. There is also a bad stench in their area.

Hilary Coke, a community leader of Impala Park, said the dump site has been full for over two months. The metro has been informed about it, but nothing was done to alleviate the problem.

“We also informed the metro that people are dumping waste outside the site premises. The metro hasn’t done anything to stop that from happening because it is continuing for a month now.

“The other problem at the dump site is that there is only one truck to clean the site and take waste to the Rietfontein Waste Disposal Site in Springs. The employees on this site were not paid last month. The contractor says the metro hasn’t paid him, so he can’t pay the employees,” said Coke.

Another resident of Impala Park, who wanted to remain anonymous, said they have informed the councillor of the area about the condition of the dump site.

“He said he will look into it, but we are still facing the same crisis.

“As the residents of the area, we are tired of living in this condition. I live opposite the dump site and everything that goes wrong there affects me. I can’t deal with the awful smell that comes from the disposal side. It is just too bad.

“The value of our houses will go down if the metro doesn’t resolve the problem at the dump site. I hope the issue will be resolved soon,” said the anonymous source.

He added that the issue at the dump site is severely affecting them as the residents of Impala Park.

The Boksburg Advertiser has sent an enquiry to the metro and is waiting for a response.
